Digital Roots Math Art

Homework

1.) Math
-draw a good copy of one of the digital roots design patterns
-success criteria:
*follow digital root number pattern
*use a ruler to make straight lines
*use colours
*use your creativity!

-if you have not yet handed in the journal assignment from Friday

3.) STEM
-if you have not yet handed in the good copy of the STEM explanation 

Highlights

*We discovered number patterns in the multiplication table called, digital roots. 
*We completed a quiz on "The Giver".
*We continued discussing vocabulary to describe feelings and plight of refugees. 
*We summarized our STEM explanation with our group members to have one for the display case to go along with our structures.

*We created and exchanged challenging number patterns.
*We discussed themes found in "The Giver" such as freedom, rights, democracy and made world connections between the book and current events. 
*We read the book "The Roses in my Carpet" and discussed the plight of refugees. 
*We played multi-sports in gym today.

***Please remember to bring a bottle of water to school everyday now that the weather is getting very warm. It is important to stay hydrated so you can stay focused and stay cool in class!***

Choose at least ONE topic to write about in your journal. The entry should be at least ONE PAGE single-spaced and in paragraph form.

1.      Describe a time when you have had a major change in your life. Include your thoughts and feelings, and how you coped with the change. Some examples are emigrating, moving houses, changing schools, moving into the city, experiencing a new family.


2.      Pretend you are a person (or an old relative) wanting to move to Canada. Describe some of the reasons why you want to move, as well as some reasons that make you want to stay in your home country. Include your thoughts and feelings, and how you coped with deciding to move to a new country. 
     
    3.) "LOL" Literacy Night
      -have your parents sign and return the form by Wed

*We completed most of our building, today was the last day before the tools needed to be returned. 
*We discussed the importance of responsibility and taking good care of our class belongings.
*We shared and critiqued STEM explanations as well as reflected on how we can "bump-up" our marks. 
*The ultimate frisbee team had our 2nd game at Winchester in the rain!!

STEM Building Day

3.) Get the permission form signed by TOMORROW
-we will be going to the Young People's Theatre next Tuesday (May 13) to watch a FREE performance
-bring your lunch that day, we will have to leave school at 12:00pm to get to the theatre on time

Highlights:

*We worked on our STEM projects all day, calculating, measuring, sawing, and building!
*We enjoyed the warm weather for outdoor gym.
*We played on instruments in music.

STEM building begins

-write an explanation of your bicycle parking lot design (5 paragraphs)

-a new reading response will be due NEXT Friday

Highlights:

*We reviewed how to convert units from mm to cm, and m to km. 
*We worked on our drafts to include accurate measurements, some groups will be ready to start using the tools and cutting the jinx wood tomorrow!
*We watched building videos to get tips and ideas on using the tools.
